Everything about us

(2022)

for SATB choir

for Tim Rhys-Evans MBE and National Youth Choir of Wales

  • 1 September 2022 at Prichard-Jones Hall, Bangor given by the National Youth Choir of Wales, conducted by Tim Rhys-Evans MBE

  • This is a ritual. Separate entities coming together to chant and sing. Performers are asked to enter the performance space whilst the audience are doing so. Person by person, the performers enter the space and ‘take up space’ with small fragments of song, reciting text/poetry, or simply by being.

The score outlines entries, in groupings of voices (high, medium, low), with an overarching timeline for vocal entries and reciting text/poetry. Pages 4 and 5 are to be treated as a template for the ‘coming together’, and performers are encouraged to add solo lines on top of the harmonic plan, or even bend the harmonic plan provided they reach the final chord at the bottom of page 5.

This ‘coming together’ is optional, dependent on the specific performance space being used. However, it is in an intrinsic part of the work, so it is strongly encouraged to explore its possibility for performance.

Sat in a circle - sharing space
Make getting ready a royal ritual
I want to know myself all over again

I want to relearn
Everything about us
I beg the gods are looking down Sprinkle right now with star dust

I've binged too much "stranger things"
Now it’s my time to shine
Change is the top-trump in everybody's deck Life-style-tictok-tickets-times
